Mercedes-Benz B-class F-Cell Car 2011 Review
In May this year, the Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell will be the fuel cell powered second car to be delivered to consumers (like the first Honda FCX Clarity). What you may not know that Mercedes-Benz was the first manufacturer to produce a vehicle to appeal. Dubbed NECAR (New Electric Car), began in 1994 and was a single-seater van. The fuel cell, battery, the electric drive unit and related facilities were all inside, making it impossible for the truck to the consumer, or almost anything other than research and marketing.
Until 1999, Mercedes-Benz has reduced the size of the system completely enough to fit into the sandwich floor of Class A architecture. This version does not allow the production, but to go in 2004, 10 residents of Berlin were fuel cell A-classes. These vehicles have been the direct precursor of the B-Class in 2011 appears here.
Did You Sleep Through Science class?
Class B is on the A-class architecture is founded. Design sandwich (an empty hollow in the floor of the cabin which, among other things, the funnel of the engine under the passenger in frontal crash) makes it an ideal candidate for the propulsion replacement for it provides a place to put a little technology. The Class B actually the same size, its gas and diesel brethren. The only difference is noticeable in the absence of a plateau of goods moving, the tray is locked in the higher (normal to the untrained eye) position, to accommodate the battery.
What makes this B-Class F-Cell "is a zero-emission cars is the fuel cell polymer electrolyte membrane. Yes, that's a mouthful. The explanation is simple: the fuel cell at high pressure d 'hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2, collected in air is converted into electrical energy) and water (H2O). It is a chemistry of fancy, but it boils down to is electrolysis Vice versa. If you remember, science junior high, when an electric current to H20 was introduced, the result is to produce O2 and H2. For the fuel cell with an energy and H2O, H2 is a membrane that allows protons H2 fed to happen, but not electrons H2. Protons with O2 on the other side of the membrane added H20 and H2, the remaining electrons (if the poles are designed to produce) electricity, therefore electric motor vehicle. Got it? Otherwise, remember that it is simply the reverse of electrolysis, and be a conversation with someone to survive, liberal-arts ".
